| Latvia is one of the Baltic states and a member of the European Union.It is bordered to the north by Estonia (343 km), to the south by Lithuania, to the east by the Russian Federation, and to the southeast by Belarus. Across the Baltic Sea to the west lies Sweden. Latvia has strong relationships with its neighbors.
Latvia is a small country but has a rich historical and cultural heritage. In particular, the capital Riga is noted for its fine architecture including some important examples of Art Nouveau. |
